Your Instagram follower count is starting to climb on Instagram. This calls for a celebration!
You’ve been working tirelessly on growing your Instagram presence so it feels great to see your hard work finally pay off, but are these extra followers bringing you more income?
Many of us would say no because follower count does not equal what’s in your bank account.
It does, however, give you an opportunity to pursue additional income streams like influencer marketing while you build your own products and services.
An influencer is someone who has built a highly engaged audience who view the influencer as a trusted source. People are more likely to buy a product from someone they like, know, and trust, which is why influencer marketing is one of the most lucrative income streams for entrepreneurs.
After you spend years building your social media audiences, influencer marketing becomes a key way to monetize that influence. Not only can you use your social media to market your own products and services, but you can also make some extra cash by partnering with brands you love.
There are two main types influencer marketing. One is focused on popular Instagram influencers and celebrities, meaning people who have over one million followers. These influencers are able to charge thousands of dollars per Instagram post, but where does that leave the rest of us?
Luckily, there is another way to monetize your influence without needing to have millions of followers. This is called micro-influencer marketing which enables you to partner with brands who are interested in reaching niche audiences.
Most of us fall into this category, but there are many entrepreneurs who are making a great living online with influencer marketing before they reach millions of people. If they can do it, so can we!
The best way for us to understand how influencer marketing works is to look at the people who do it well. It’s not rare to see entrepreneurs post about products on Instagram, but doing it in an engaging way can be tricky.
Today, we want to give you a brief look into how Instagram influencers are using engaging content to partner with well-known brands and increase their income by selling third-party products.
Let’s break down some of our favorite examples.
Let’s shift gears and look at another Instagram influencer. This photo from Jordan Lee Dooley is a more obvious influencer marketing post since it features an opened Fab Fit Fun box, but there are other aspects of this post that make it a winner.
Jordan’s audience is primarily made up of college-aged and recently post-grad women, so the fun subscription box product is a perfect fit for her followers. Instead of only explaining what was inside the box, she included a gallery of photos that tell more of the story.
Here are a few more things we love about this post:
- By including her dog in the second and third photo, it entices her followers to click through and see all of the photos. She added a hint about her dog being in the next few photos in her caption too. Super smart!
- Also, having her dog in the photo makes this feel more like a lifestyle shot than a simple product marketing photo. It brings more life to the unboxing experience.
- She adds a brief mention of her favorite item from the box, which is a colorful towel she loves and uses often.
Now it’s your turn!
What would it look like for you to include influencer marketing as one of your income streams? What steps do you need to take before you get there? We will be discussing more of this in the months to come, but in the meantime, tell us more about how you want to use influencer marketing to grow your brand in the comment section below!
