This story is written by our founder, Claire Dobson, who went from 100 pageviews a month to more than 1,000 pageviews A DAY by utilizing Tailwind. And that was just in the first month!
Join Claire as she breaks down how she uses Tailwind for our blog and her own personal brand, and how you can increase your blog traffic for free using Tailwind.
Imagine dragging yourself out of bed to start your workday, only to find that your late night pinning session brought in 1k+ new repins in less than 12 hours?
This is exactly what happened to me in my second week of using Tailwind tribes.
I kept refreshing my screen, wondering if my eyes were playing tricks on me after one too many cups of coffee or if it really was true.
And just like that, I realized I had brought more visitors to my blog in a few days using Tailwind than I had with any other tool in over a decade of running multiple businesses.
At the time, I was still getting the hang of how to use their automated pin scheduler, but I never thought I would see results like this. And so quickly!
After a few days of experimenting, I began to see trends in how my content was performing and how I could use Tailwind tribes to bring more Pinterest users to my website.
We’re taught not to believe that we can find fast growth in online business, but I didn’t know what else to call this.
It didn’t hurt that my bounce rate was less than 4%.
That meant that nearly everyone who visited my blog after clicking on one of my pins viewed at least one other blog post or page on my website.
People weren’t only coming to my blog but they were staying.
And they were more likely to opt-in to my email list.
This was HUGE!
I knew the only reason why this had happened was because of Tailwind tribes.
What are Tailwind tribes?
Tailwind tribes are one of my favorite features on the platform. It refers to a group of people who all exchange and share relevant pins within the Tailwind platform.
Do you remember when people used to create group Pinterest boards?
Tailwind tribes are like group boards on steroids.
With a little bit of research, you can find Tailwind tribes in your niche that are highly active. The more active the Tailwind tribe members are, the more repins you will likely get.
Top strategies for engaging with Tailwind tribes.
Before you go on a pinning frenzy inside Tailwind, here are a few strategies you’ll want to keep in mind when you start using Tailwind tribes.
Find Tailwind tribes in your niche
Once your tribe invite is received and accepted, it’s time to start pinning other people’s pins to your boards. It’s important to find Tailwind tribes that fit within your niche so you are pinning content that is relevant to your followers.
For example, if you are an interior designer, joining a Tailwind tribe that only shares vegan recipes may not be a great fit.
If you pin too many vegan recipes to your Pinterest boards, you’ll turn off your followers. However, if you pin your interior designs to the vegan recipe Tailwind tribe, you’ll turn off the tribe members and possibly be removed from the tribe.
If you don’t have a specific niche, that’s okay! For lifestyle bloggers, coaches, and other professions, you may have more flexibility with the topics you cover.
Use your best judgment when pinning content to the Tailwind tribe. Make sure that it fits the audience of the people inside the tribe and fits your own audience. If you can satisfy both communities, you are in the clear.

Pin content from other Tailwind tribe members too
It’s important that you don’t use Tailwind tribes to only pin your own content to the group. While pinning your own content is a great way to get more repins, people can tell when you aren’t pinning anyone else’s content.
This can be a big turn-off for Tailwind tribe members who have a “sharing is caring” mindset when it comes to the content they pin. You don’t want to take value without giving value in return.
Instead, for every pin you share with a Tailwind tribe, it is recommended that you share two from someone else. So if you share four pins of your own content, try sharing around eight pins from other tribe members.
The more you share tribe member pins, the more likely they will be to repin yours.
You have to be active in Tailwind tribes
Although most Tailwind users have a “set it and forget it” attitude when it comes to pinning content, you’ll want to be regularly active and highly engaged in your best-performing Tailwind tribes.
It may even feel like you are spamming at first, but as long as you are sharing other people’s content as well as your own, you will be fine.
If you only log onto Tailwind every once in a while to pin a few pieces of content, you won’t see the results you want.
Instead, put aside a set time every few days to engage with Tailwind tribes. For me, I love pinning content to Tailwind tribes after dinner is finished and I’m about to settle in for a few episodes of my favorite show on Netflix.
Luckily, pinning with Tailwind tribes doesn’t take a ton of your focused energy so you can do it while watching TV, listening to music, or learning something new in a podcast.
Take it from a single mom and full-time entrepreneur: there is always time to fit it in.
Spend more time in the Tailwind tribes that are working for you
When you first sign up for Tailwind, you’ll get starry-eyed when you see all of the different Tailwind tribes you can be a part of. So many niches, so little time, am I right?
Once the magic wears off, you’ll start to see which tribes are worth your time and which ones aren’t as active. You can usually tell if the Tailwind tribe is a good fit for you based on the number of repins and shares you are getting.
Also, keep an eye on the potential reach and impression averages so you know which Tailwind tribes give you the best opportunity for your content to get found.
